HOUSING / LAND DEVELOPMENT

Arboretum

The 250 hectare site is situated in the Greenhills Forest area west of the Tuggeranong Parkway and Lake Burley Griffin. It was ravaged by the 2003 Canberra fires. The opportunity to create the International Arboretum and Gardens envisaged by Walter Burley Griffin back in 1911, has been embraced.

The Arboretum incorporates an existing stand of 5000 Himalayan Cedars and an 80 year old Cork Oak plantation. The National Bonsai and Penjing Collection of Australia will be housed here when the permanent infrastructure has been built.

The $60 - $75 million project is in its infancy. Stage 2 was launched in 2009. Marsupial Landscape Management prepared the lots, grading, installing irrigation, planting, mulching and maintaining the site for a year. Trees are being planted as tubestock, bare-rooted stock, and from pots. Two plants from each species will be bonsaied and added to the National Bonsai collection.

In the long term it will present a permanent garden cultivated for conservation, scientific and educational study, display and preservation.

Bonner

In December 2009 Marsupial completed another Land Development Agency venture, converting the agricultural land of Bonner into residential and parkland. Into the future we will continue to strengthen our proficiency in Street tree planting after the construction of amenity parkland infrastructure on this $1 million project.

Dunlop

Completed in 2008, Marsupial was enlisted by the Land Development Agency on a $1.7 million contract in the construction of public open space and street tree planting throughout the residential area. Scope of works included footpaths, boulder placement, park furniture and public art installation.

Forde

Forde is a $500 million master-planned community located in Gungahlin, close to Canberra's CBD. It was been planned and funded by Delfin, Landscape Development Agency and Canberra Investment Corporation. Marsupial was instrumental in the physical construction of the hard landscaping in the new community.

Marsupial provided the infrastructure to implement a progressive water saving plan including water efficient landscaping and recycled water irrigation for parklands which has resulted in the use of 40% less potable water than in comparable sized communities.

Franklin

From late 2007 - 2009 Marsupial was contracted to build the $3.8 million landscape infrastructure for the Land Development Agency. Street tree planting and the construction of the amenities for functional and interactive public open spaces on this project were created by our professional team.

Marsupial built public open space with a value of $2.6 million in conjunction with the Land Development Agency at Gungaderra Creek. We were responsible for a wide scope of works, from the installation of jetties to the garden bed edging, irrigation and planting out. INFRASTRUCTURE

Desalination Plant

Sydney's Desalination Plant at Kurnell is capable of producing 250 million litres of water a day - amounting to 15% of Sydney's water supply needs. It was completed in early 2010. Marsupial was responsible for all of the landscaping on the site. Irrigation was laid and 40,000 Juncus grasses were planted. Large areas were successfully hydro seeded using native seed that was collected from the site.

Leura Interchange - Great Western Highway Upgrade

Soilworks, planting and mulching of the upgraded Great Western Highway softened the new infrastructure.

SACL-Sydney Airport Corporation Limited

Marsupial rejuvenates, redesigns, renovates and maintains the landscape assets of Australia's busiest airport, Sydney.

An area containing large Palm trees and Tree ferns was earmarked when the carpark needed extending, Marsupial recommended that the palms be transplanted to another area on the airport grounds.

All preparation works were carried out during normal working hours. The high level of disruption the transplanting would create in the heavily trafficked area, meant the palms were physically transported during curfew hours at the airport - between 11pm and 5am. All of the palms where removed in one night and transplanted throughout the next day. Intense watering and specialised transplanting supplements implemented over the next few weeks resulted in 100% success rate.

Safelink

The Safelink project was designed to deliver Brisbane a safer, more efficient Ipswich Motorway. Marsupial worked in a joint venture with Queensland's Main Roads, Leighton's and BMD to achieve this end. Marsupial followed the construction of the roads, with the earth moving and amenity landscaping of the entire project.

The site required excavation and soil cultivation of existing soil and the importation of 40,000 sqm of topsoil and mulch. The stabilisation of 60,000 sqm of steep batters using jute matting and Carex was a large component of the job. Approximately 1.4 million plants were brought in and planted onto the 5 km site.

Bris Connect

Marsupial transplanted some trees for the Airport link road, moving them from a roundabout to a park.
